Artemether Injection Therapeutic Indications and Dosage

Artemether Injection is a kind of antimalarial drug used for the treatment of all kinds of malaria including the chloroquine-resitant P. falciparum malaria and the first aid of critical malaria.

The drug is used for intramuscular injection, five days course with the initial dose of 3.2mg/jg, followed by 1.6mg/kg for the following 4 days. The initial dose for adults is 160mg, followed by 80mg every time from the 2nd to 5th day. The dose for children or overweight patients should be changed on the basis of the individual weight or under doctor’s prescription.
Artemether Injection Side Effects
Side effects due to artemether are rare and generally reversible once the medication is stopped. *
Headache,Dizziness, Loss of appetite,Weakness,Fever,Chills,Abdominal pain,Cough and Trouble sleeping are common side effects after using Artemether Injections.
Some of the serious side effects might occor after using it such as Rash, Itching/ swelling, Severe dizziness and Trouble breathing.
Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, ask for help from healthcare professional or call doctor for medical advice as soon as possible.
Warnings

Do not use artemether together with drugs that inhibit the cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP3A4 like ketoconazole or drugs that induce the CYP3A4 enzyme like carbamazepine and phenobarbital.
